EastMallBuy review: its rate API answers anyone, so we asked it everything

This is the fifth agent we have taken apart using only what the agent itself publishes, and EastMallBuy made it easier than most. Its freight endpoint accepts a plain JSON request with no cookie, no token, no signature and no captcha, and returns a full fee decomposition for every route: freight, handling, customs, fuel, tariff, insurance, the billing increment, the weight cap and a long note per line. Everything below was read on 6 August 2026.

We went looking for the same things we looked for at CSSBuy, Joyagoo, AllChinaBuy and Basetao, and found a similar shape of answer: the rate machinery is unusually legible, and the written policies disagree with it, with each other, and in one case with a different company's name left in the text.

One note on why we picked this one. Of six candidates probed the same morning, EastMallBuy was the only one whose rate endpoint answers an unauthenticated request. PonyBuy has a genuinely public calculator but signs every call, and a request without those headers is refused. LoongBuy returns a hard Cloudflare block to anything scripted. KameyMall returned zero bytes twice, at 25 and 60 seconds. HooBuy exposes no rate path in its entry bundle. OopBuy answers reference queries but not rate ones — though it did hand over one incidental fact: its own country API serves flag images from a hahbuy.com host, which is HagoBuy's other spelling. That is shared infrastructure evidence, from OopBuy's own endpoint rather than a rumour.

1. The service fee is a flat charge per route, not a percentage — what this EastMallBuy review found

This is the cleanest structural difference between EastMallBuy and the agents we have looked at before. Basetao charges a flat 5% of goods value, uncapped. EastMallBuy's handling fee is a fixed number of yuan attached to the shipping line, and it does not move with your basket.

We know it is fixed rather than a rate because it is identical at 1kg and at 20kg on all 38 route templates we quoted, and because sending a declared goods value of 10,000 yuan changed nothing. Observed values:

For a large order this is structurally in your favour compared with a percentage agent. For a small one it is not: on a cheap 1kg UK parcel a 58 yuan handling fee is a third of the bill.

What we could not establish is the buying-agent commission — the fee for actually purchasing on your behalf. The only endpoint that could carry it returns an access-permission error without a login. So this section describes the shipping side only, and you should ask about the purchase side in writing before you commit.

2. The cheapest freight is not the cheapest total, and the winner changes with weight — a EastMallBuy review detail

Freight and handling are separate fields; only the total adds them. Germany at 1kg is a clean inversion:

The last row is the point: seventh cheapest on freight, joint second on total, beating four routes that quote less freight, entirely on a 15 versus 44 yuan handling fee. The UK does the same thing — DPD quotes 103 freight against ZJ-e-EMS at 161.5, and their totals land at 169 and 169.5.

Then the ranking inverts with weight. At 1kg, SAL is the second most expensive UK option on the menu. At 20kg it is the cheapest by a wide margin, 778 yuan against 1,628 for the runner-up — 2.1 times. Nothing in the interface signals that crossover, so a habit of quoting a round 1kg to compare agents will point you at the wrong line for a real haul. Two more mechanical details from the same responses. Billing increments differ tenfold between lines on one route: the EUB and ZJ-e-EMS lines bill in 100g steps, most UK lines in 500g, and SAL in a full 1,000g — so a 1,100g parcel is billed as 1,100g, 1,500g or 2,000g depending only on which line you choose. And the customs field is a flat 8.00 yuan on 36 of 38 templates, with two unexplained exceptions: US-uniuni charges 10, and one of the four identically-named MY-ups-6000 templates charges nothing while its three siblings charge 8.

3. The volumetric divisor: the FAQ says one number, the API uses five — as this EastMallBuy review reads it

The explainer printed on the calculator page states the formula as length times width times height in centimetres, divided by 6000. The per-line notes returned by that same page's own API use five different rules:

Apply the FAQ's 6000 to a bulky UK parcel on UK Packet (/8000) and you over-estimate by 33%; apply it on HK-Fedex (/5000) and you under-estimate by 20%. A third figure, 8000, appears as the worked example in a Help Centre article. And there is a naming trap worth holding onto: the route named MY-ups-6000 does use 6000, but the route named Europe Line -7000 uses 7000 — so route names encode a divisor sometimes and mislead about it other times.

4. The dimension boxes on the calculator do nothing at all — from this EastMallBuy review

Given all that, the next finding is the strangest one. The calculator has Length, Width and Height inputs. The endpoint ignores them. Quoting 1kg to the UK with and without a 40×40×40cm box returned byte-identical prices:

That box is 64,000cm³, which by the site's own 6000 rule is a 10.67kg volumetric weight, not 1kg. The price does not move by a cent. So the public estimate is valid for dense parcels only, and the results page does not say so. Sections 3 and 4 together mean the divisor question is real but unanswerable from the calculator — you will find out which rule applied when the invoice arrives.

5. Insurance is charged on your freight, not on your goods — this EastMallBuy review on the record

The rate is 5% on twelve of the fifteen UK lines and 3% on the other three — and the three cheaper ones are all China Post or EMS routes. The premium returned is exactly that percentage of the shipping total, confirmed to four decimals on every line: UK Packet 5.40 on 108, DPD 8.45 on 169, HK-UPS-T 18.85 on 377.

There is no declared-value field anywhere in the request. So the premium scales with how heavy your parcel is, not with what is inside it — a heavy box of cheap clothing costs more to insure than a light box of expensive ones. Whether the payout is capped, we could not determine: the Help Centre category named Insurance Policy and Compensation Rules contains one article whose entire body is an instruction to contact customer service.

6. "Brand goods" is a shipping category that restricts nothing — the EastMallBuy review finding

The calculator's goods-type dropdown includes a first-class option named Sensitive goods - Brand goods. Selecting it returns a usable-route set that is byte-identical to General Cargo — ten of the fifteen UK lines. It filters nothing. For contrast, the Flammable and Explosive option in the same dropdown returns zero routes, which is what a category that actually restricts something looks like.

That sits awkwardly beside the written rules. The Anti-Counterfeiting Policy says products “must be authentic” and that non-authentic products are “strictly prohibited”; prohibited item 12 bans “any product which does not possess intellectual rights.” Yet the service agreement twice describes handling “counterfeit commodities” as an operational matter — once as a customs delivery risk, once as a category excluded from professional inspection. A site that strictly prohibits something does not usually need two clauses explaining how it treats it in transit. We are recording the contradiction, not resolving it; if it matters to your order, get an answer in writing before you pay. Our what “reps” actually means page covers the wider framing.

One related policy statement is worth quoting plainly because it shifts risk onto you. The Help Centre, explaining customs, says the platform will refer to each country's tariff threshold for “low-priced declaration to avoid paying taxes”, while noting you can set the declared value yourself. Under-declaring an import is the importer's exposure, not the forwarder's — and in the EU the rules changed materially in 2026, which our customs and tax guide covers.

7. What the policies actually say — what this EastMallBuy review found

• Free storage: 90 days, then “we will uniformly destroy expired products” — and, verbatim, “the destroyed goods will no longer be prompted or notified.” Unmatched parcels get 60 days, and the same page states a reminder “cannot be given” for those. A separate membership page promises an email reminder at 80 days, which is hard to reconcile with either.
• QC photos: three. “Generally three, which are ordinary pixel photos taken from three angles of the front, back, and side (or logo)”. Anything else — your choice of angle, detail shots, measurements — is a paid Fine Photography service. That is a thinner free allowance than several competitors.
• Inspection excludes most of what goes wrong. Appearance only: “model, style, and size”. Explicitly not covered: “colour difference, size measurement error, actual usage result”; for electronics, “the inspection does not include checking authenticity, function, and quality”; sealed packages are not opened.
• Repacking is default. “Eastmallbuy will remove the original packaging and pack goods into a new ziplock bag”. Warehouse is in Yiwu.
• Returns: 5 days, once per 30 days, and the agreement states explicitly that it is “not subject to” China's seven-day no-reason return measures, because it is an agent rather than a seller.

8. Where its own documents disagree — a EastMallBuy review detail

Four of these are sharp enough to affect a claim.

Insurance versus confiscation. The Help Centre says insurance compensates “if your package is lost or seized by customs”, and that even the free policy covers the value of your goods in that event. The service agreement excludes goods “confiscated or otherwise disposed of by the competent authorities”, and puts prohibited-item losses entirely on the user. Those two sentences describe the same event and promise opposite outcomes — and it is the single scenario most people buy parcel insurance for. Two damage deadlines, ten lines apart. The same help article gives 2 days in point 2 and 72 hours in point 4 for reporting a damaged or missing item. The Refund and Return Policy repeats only the 2-day version. Work to 48 hours.

A different company's name in the after-sales text. Point 3 of that same article tells you that you may “entrust 123buy to contact the merchants in Chinese Mainland for return/replacement”. Every other sentence in the article says eastmallbuy. Across 26 pages we fetched, that name appears exactly once — an un-scrubbed find-and-replace artifact indicating the after-sales policy was copied from another agent's site. It is a small thing that tells you how much of the fine print was written for this business.

Service hours, three ways, same day. The footer says “7x9Hours (Beijing Time 09:00~18:00)”. The Help Centre header says “9:00-24:00”. About Us claims “uninterrupted 7*24-hour service”. Separately, the page linked from every footer as Shipping Policy returns HTTP 200, 23KB and a title — and its content area is completely empty.

9. Who is behind it — as this EastMallBuy review reads it

The footer names Eastmall (HK) Tech Co., Ltd. at a Lockhart Road address in Wan Chai, and a Hong Kong company number appears on exactly one page — the service agreement, not the footer.

The raw HTML of every policy page carries two more identifiers inside HTML comments, so no visitor sees them: a Zhejiang ICP filing number, and a mainland operator name translating as Hangzhou Dongshang Meiwu Technology Co., Ltd. The disclosed Hong Kong entity and the concealed Hangzhou one are different companies. Alongside them sits an empty link to China's ICP filing portal — the link element survived, the filing number was stripped out of it — and the Hong Kong street address is hyperlinked to the Hubei provincial node of the mainland business registry.

The eighteen-digit unified social credit code, the one identifier that would tie the mainland company to a verifiable registry entry, does not appear on any page we fetched. Both contact addresses are real: the domain has working Alibaba enterprise mail records, unlike a case earlier in this series where the support address had no mail server at all.

Two infrastructure notes. The apex, the www host and the API all resolve to a single Alibaba Cloud Hong Kong IP behind plain nginx with no CDN, while static assets are served from a Cloudflare-fronted second domain on a different TLD. And the origin sets a cookie whose name contains your own public IP address, scoped to the whole domain and readable by any script on it. The site runs Google Analytics and a TikTok pixel.

10. What we could not verify — from this EastMallBuy review

Stating this plainly is part of the method, as it was for CSSBuy and Basetao. We could not establish: the buying-agent commission rate (login-gated); the definition or timeout of a “lost” parcel — no number exists anywhere on the site, and the exclusion clause refers to an inquiry expiry date it never states; and any cap on insurance payouts. Three unanswered questions, all of them about what happens when something goes wrong. That is the pattern worth noticing, rather than any one of them.

One more caveat on the rate data itself: the API returns a full price for routes it simultaneously marks unusable, and prices routes well past their own stated weight caps — a route capped at 2kg still returned a quote for a 20kg parcel. The filtering happens in the browser, not the API. Treat any quote you obtain directly as indicative.

Who it suits — this EastMallBuy review on the record

It suits the buyer who wants a flat, predictable handling charge rather than a percentage of their basket, and who is shipping heavy — the 20kg SAL number is genuinely competitive, and a fixed fee stops mattering as the parcel grows. Being able to price a real parcel with no account is a real advantage; several agents put this behind a login.

It suits you least if your parcel is bulky rather than dense, because the public quote silently ignores dimensions and the divisor that will actually be applied is one of five. And it suits you least if you weigh disclosure heavily: a concealed ICP filing, two different operating companies, no unified social credit code, an insurance promise its own agreement contradicts, two damage deadlines, a blank shipping policy and another company's name in the returns text.
