Hoobuy review: the first agent in this series you cannot price from outside
This is the sixth agent we have taken apart using only what the agent itself publishes, and it is the first one where that method largely fails. Everything below was read on 7 August 2026.
The previous five reviews worked because the machinery was legible. CSSBuy, Joyagoo, AllChinaBuy, Basetao and EastMallBuy all expose rate data to an ordinary request, which is why it was possible to say precise things about their billing increments, their volumetric divisors and the gap between their published policies and their live systems. Hoobuy does not, and that shapes this entire page. What follows is a shorter piece than the others, and deliberately so: we would rather publish five things we checked than twenty we assumed.
1. You cannot systematically compare its prices — what this Hoobuy review found
Hoobuy runs a freight estimator at its /estimation page. It takes a destination, a weight in grams, a product category and optional length, width and height. It also carries a Cloudflare Turnstile challenge — there is a cf-turnstile-response field sitting in the form next to the ordinary inputs. A separate probe of its front-end bundle in early August found no rate path exposed at all.
So you can get a quote. One destination, one weight, by hand, in a browser, having passed a bot check. What you cannot do is what makes an independent comparison possible in the first place: sweep a range of weights and destinations and see where the ranking inverts. That matters because on every agent where we could run that sweep, the ranking did invert — the cheapest line at 1kg was repeatedly not the cheapest at 20kg, and the line with the lowest freight repeatedly did not have the lowest total.
Be clear about what this is and is not. A bot challenge on a public form is an entirely reasonable thing for a company to do, and it is not evidence of anything improper. But it does mean that Hoobuy's pricing is unverifiable from outside in a way that four of its competitors' pricing is not, and that is a real difference you are entitled to weigh.
2. The one number it does publish is the least generous we have found — a Hoobuy review detail
Hoobuy states its volumetric rule plainly, in the FAQ printed directly beneath its own estimator, and gives two worked examples: length × width × height in centimetres, divided by 6,000; 6,000 cubic centimetres bills as 1kg; one cubic metre bills as 167kg. That is clearer than several competitors manage, and it is stated without hedging or asterisks. Credit where it is due.
The problem is the number. A larger divisor is better for you, because it turns the same box into fewer billable kilograms. Set against the other agents in this series:

On a dense parcel this is irrelevant, because you are billed on actual weight anyway. On a bulky one it is the whole bill. The same box charged at 6,000 rather than 9,000 costs half as much again. Hoobuy's own packing guidance says as much without drawing the conclusion: it singles out winter coats and puffer jackets as the category most likely to attract a volumetric charge, and recommends vacuum compression bags; it warns that boot and trainer boxes are bulky, and that hard-shell suitcases have a fixed volume and should travel separately.
The practical instruction, and it applies to every agent rather than just this one: if what you are buying is light and bulky, the divisor is the number that decides your bill, and it is nearly always buried further down the page than the headline rate. 3. It says who it is, and most of them do not — as this Hoobuy review reads it
This is the section where Hoobuy comes out well, and it is worth being as specific in its favour as we have been against others.
The footer of every page names the operating company and gives a full street address: Xiamen Huhusuan Digital Technology Co., Ltd., at Room 601-H, Free Trade Legal Affairs Building, 15 Xiangxing Road, in the Xiamen Area of the China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone, with a copyright line running 2020 to 2026. It is printed on the homepage, on the estimator, on the help centre — every page we opened.
Compare what we found at the other two agents where we went looking. Basetao's footer carries a Guangzhou address and an email, and searching its own source for a company name, an ICP filing number, a unified social credit code or the words Co., Ltd returned nothing on all four. EastMallBuy names a Hong Kong entity in its footer while a different mainland operator name sits inside HTML comments, invisible to any ordinary visitor.
One honest caveat: what is established here is disclosure, not verification. We did not check the named company against China's business registry. But a company that prints its registered name and its office address on every page has done something the others chose not to do, and in a market with this much anonymity that is worth more than it sounds.
4. A 200 from this site means nothing — from this Hoobuy review
A methodological note that is genuinely useful if you ever try to check something about an agent yourself.
Hoobuy is a Nuxt single-page application, and its server returns one identical 10,057-byte HTML document for every URL we requested. The homepage, the estimator, the help centre, paths we invented to test the theory, and even /api/ paths that should never serve HTML — all of them return HTTP 200, all of them return the same shell, all of them carry the same meta description. The routing happens entirely in the browser.
Two consequences. First, any crawler that does not run JavaScript sees exactly one page on this domain. Second, and this is the one that will save you time: you cannot probe this site by status code. We briefly believed we had found a working help API because six requests returned 200; all six were the shell. Read the body, not the header. It is the same lesson as a shop page that returns 200 and serves a bot wall — the status line is not the answer.
5. What it will not carry, in its own words — this Hoobuy review on the record
Hoobuy's estimator FAQ is more specific about restricted goods than most, and it is worth reading before you build a haul around something borderline.
- Not carried at all: cigarettes, alcohol, medicines and prohibited items, which it attributes to customs regulations.
- Requires certification: food, liquids, powders and pastes need non-dangerous-goods certification under air freight rules. Its advice is to avoid sending these in bulk, to try small quantities, and to combine them with ordinary goods such as clothing and shoes to lower the risk of seizure.
- Cosmetics, with numbers: not more than 100ml per item and not more than 200ml per parcel — and even then the wording is that it can try to ship them for you.
- The disclaimer: all shipping advice is based on past shipping experience, and it accepts no responsibility for any customs detention.
That last line is the correct expectation to hold with any agent, not just this one. What happens at your border is not something the agent controls or insures against by default. 6. One capability almost nobody else has — the Hoobuy review finding
Its estimator page offers a custom shipping service covering bulk freight and sea-rail intermodal transport, arranged by contacting the company directly rather than through normal checkout.
Nearly every agent in this market is parcel-only: you buy, they consolidate, a box goes by air or post. Sea-rail intermodal is container-and-pallet vocabulary, which suggests Hoobuy serves commercial volumes alongside individual shoppers. For an ordinary haul this changes nothing at all. If you are moving genuinely large quantities, it is a capability most of the names on a comparison list simply do not have — and it is not advertised anywhere prominent.
A smaller note on positioning, since it is visible in the site's own metadata: Hoobuy describes itself as a DHgate alternative first, and a Taobao, 1688 and Weidian agent second. Almost everyone else in this space positions against Pandabuy or Superbuy. Aiming at DHgate is aiming at a wholesale-ish, general-goods buyer rather than at the fashion-haul crowd, which fits the sea-rail line above.
7. What we could not find out — what this Hoobuy review found
Listing this properly matters more than filling it in, so: we could not establish Hoobuy's service fee or buying commission, its free storage period, how many QC photos are free, its insurance rates, or a single per-line freight figure. The help centre article bodies did not render for us, and the quote form sits behind the bot challenge described above.
The documentation clearly exists. The help centre is organised into service types, account assets, delivery methods, after-sales, user instructions and business cooperation, and the footer links out to specific pages on service and fees, storage duration, inspection rules, insurance and compensation, packing, and customs and tax. We simply could not read them from outside, and we are not going to invent numbers to fill a table.
So the closing instruction is the same one we have given for every agent in this series, and it applies with more force here than usual: get the service fee, the free storage window and the insurance terms in writing before you send anything you would mind losing. An agent whose fee schedule you can only see after committing is one where that conversation is not optional.
